Watch and sensors work great. Battery health is not 100%, but I’m finding some ways to optimize battery usage to only need to charge twice a week. Charges very fast.

Happy with the watch, which arrived in good condition. The only issue is that I received a grey watch instead of a black one. I'm happy with the grey. It just isn't was was ordered.

The device looked as promised, but became very hot when charging. It would only charge to about 40%, and then as soon as I disconnected it from the charger, the battery went back down to 0% within minutes.

I love it! It works great and looks brand new. I am a little discouraged that the battery only lasts about 3-4 days per charge but love everything it does! I wish I would have gotten one years ago.

The Garmin Vivoactive series combines multisport tracking with smart features for active individuals who want detailed performance metrics without the bulk of premium sports watches. Choosing a refurbished smartwatch gives you access to Garmin's fitness expertise while making a sustainable choice. Find the versatile watch that tracks everything from yoga to cycling with precision.

What are the key features of Garmin Vivoactive watches?

Multisport tracking: preloaded profiles for running, cycling, swimming, golf, yoga, strength training, and 20+ activities
Built-in GPS and GLONASS: accurate outdoor tracking for pace, distance, and route mapping without your phone
Advanced fitness metrics: VO2 max estimation, training status, recovery time, and fitness age calculations
24/7 health monitoring: wrist-based heart rate, stress tracking, Body Battery energy monitoring, and sleep analysis
Extended battery life: up to 8 days in smartwatch mode, 6-8 hours with continuous GPS
Water resistant to 50 meters: swim-proof with pool and open water swim modes
Smart notifications: receive texts, calls, and app alerts when paired with your smartphone
Cross-platform compatibility: works with both Android and iOS devices

What are the differences between a refurbished and a used Garmin Vivoactive watch?

A used Garmin watch is resold without professional inspection, which matters for devices designed for active use. GPS accuracy, heart rate sensors, and barometric altimeters can degrade or become miscalibrated from heavy use and impacts. A refurbished Garmin Vivoactive from RefurbLane has been thoroughly tested by trusted refurbishers following our Quality Charter.

Each watch undergoes comprehensive inspection of GPS satellite acquisition, heart rate sensor accuracy, barometric altimeter calibration, touchscreen responsiveness, battery performance, water resistance seals, and charging functionality. Every device comes with a minimum 1-year warranty and 30-day returns. You get reliable training data and health metrics without the premium new price, while reducing electronic waste.

Who is the Garmin Vivoactive watch best for?

The Garmin Vivoactive series serves several types of active users:

Multi-sport athletes: seamlessly track running, cycling, swimming, and strength training with sport-specific metrics in one watch
Recreational fitness enthusiasts: comprehensive activity tracking without the expense or bulk of Garmin's premium Forerunner or Fenix lines
Golfers: preloaded golf courses with distance measurements and score tracking (on Vivoactive 4 and newer models)
People wanting detailed metrics: VO2 max, training effect, recovery advisor, and performance insights help optimize workouts
Users prioritizing battery life: week-long battery eliminates daily charging routines common with many smartwatches
Swimmers: advanced swim metrics including stroke detection, SWOLF score, and pool length customization
Budget-conscious athletes: Garmin's training features and GPS accuracy at more accessible prices than premium models

Which Garmin Vivoactive watch should you choose?

Garmin Vivoactive 5 is the latest model with a brighter AMOLED display that's significantly easier to read than the Memory-in-Pixel (MIP) displays on older models. It adds wheelchair mode, sleep coaching, and nap detection while maintaining 11-day battery life. The interface feels more modern with smoother animations. Choose the Vivoactive 5 if you want the best display quality and latest features while keeping the accessible Vivoactive price point.

Garmin Vivoactive 4 and 4S remain excellent options at refurbished prices. They include animated workouts, Body Battery energy monitoring, pulse ox, and music storage. The 4S (40mm) suits smaller wrists while the standard 4 (45mm) offers a larger display. Battery lasts 8 days in smartwatch mode. The main tradeoff versus the Vivoactive 5 is the lower-resolution MIP display that's harder to read indoors but more visible in bright sunlight. Choose Vivoactive 4 if you prioritize battery life and don't mind the older display technology.

Garmin Vivoactive 3 and 3 Music are older models that still deliver core Garmin tracking—GPS, heart rate, multisport profiles—at the lowest refurbished prices. The 3 Music adds onboard music storage. They lack some newer metrics like Body Battery and advanced sleep tracking but handle basic fitness tracking reliably. Choose Vivoactive 3 if you want Garmin GPS accuracy and training features on a tight budget.

Display comparison: The Vivoactive 5's AMOLED screen is vibrant and easy to read in all conditions. Vivoactive 4 and 3 use transflective MIP displays that are always visible but lower resolution and less colorful. AMOLED drains more battery, but Garmin optimized the Vivoactive 5 to still achieve excellent life.

Browse models including Vivoactive 5, Vivoactive 4/4S, and Vivoactive 3 to find features matching your fitness goals and budget. Different cosmetic grades let you choose between like-new condition or fully functional watches with minor wear. Garmin's durable construction means even Fair condition units typically have only surface scratches while all functions work perfectly.

How accurate is the GPS on Garmin Vivoactive watches?

Garmin's GPS accuracy is generally excellent and among the best for consumer fitness watches. The Vivoactive uses both GPS and GLONASS satellites for positioning, which improves accuracy in challenging environments like dense tree cover or urban areas with tall buildings. Real-world distance measurements typically match known routes within 1-2% accuracy. GPS acquisition is usually quick—most units lock onto satellites within 30 seconds outdoors. For activities requiring precise distance tracking like race training, Garmin's GPS performance is reliable. The accuracy exceeds many competitors at similar price points.

Can I download music to the Garmin Vivoactive?

Music storage capability varies by model. The Vivoactive 3 Music, Vivoactive 4, and Vivoactive 5 support downloading music from Spotify Premium, Deezer, or Amazon Music for phone-free listening with Bluetooth headphones. Storage holds roughly 500 songs. The base Vivoactive 3 doesn't include music storage but can control music playing on your phone. Music downloads require premium streaming service subscriptions—free Spotify accounts won't work for offline downloads. Most users appreciate having music onboard for running without carrying their phone.

What's the battery life on Garmin Vivoactive watches?

Battery life varies by model and usage. Vivoactive 5 lasts up to 11 days in smartwatch mode. Vivoactive 4 achieves about 8 days. Vivoactive 3 manages roughly 7 days. During continuous GPS use for tracking workouts, expect 6-8 hours on most models before needing to recharge. Playing music from the watch drains battery faster than GPS alone. These battery estimates assume typical use with notifications, daily activity tracking, and occasional GPS workouts. Heavy GPS users who run or cycle daily may charge twice weekly instead of weekly.

Does the Garmin Vivoactive track swimming?

Yes, all Vivoactive models are water-resistant to 50 meters (5ATM) and include swim tracking modes. Pool swim mode tracks laps, distance, stroke type, and SWOLF efficiency score. You need to set your pool length correctly for accurate lap counting. Open water swim mode uses GPS to track distance and route in lakes or oceans. The watch automatically detects stroke type (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly) and provides detailed post-swim analysis. Swimmers appreciate Garmin's comprehensive swim metrics compared to basic lap counting on many smartwatches.

Can I use Garmin Vivoactive for golf?

Yes, Vivoactive 4 and newer models include golf features with over 41,000 preloaded courses worldwide. The watch provides yardage to the front, middle, and back of the green, plus hazards and doglegs. You can track your score and get stat tracking for your game. The touchscreen lets you drag a pin to move it to actual hole locations. It's not as fully featured as dedicated Garmin golf watches like the Approach series, but it works well for recreational golfers who want course management without carrying additional devices. Vivoactive 3 doesn't include built-in golf features.

What is Body Battery on Garmin watches?

Body Battery is Garmin's energy monitoring feature (available on Vivoactive 4 and 5) that estimates your body's energy reserves on a scale of 0-100. It uses heart rate variability, stress levels, sleep quality, and activity data to calculate whether you're charged up or drained. The score helps you identify optimal times for intense workouts versus when your body needs rest. Many users find it surprisingly accurate for gauging recovery—low Body Battery often correlates with feeling tired, while high scores match feeling energized. It's useful for avoiding overtraining and planning workout intensity.

Does the Garmin Vivoactive work with iPhone and Android?

Yes, Garmin Vivoactive watches work with both iPhone (iOS 15 or later) and Android (Android 7.0 or later) through the Garmin Connect app. You get full functionality on both platforms including activity syncing, smart notifications, music control, and data analysis. Unlike Apple Watch (iOS only) or Samsung Galaxy Watch (best with Android), Garmin doesn't restrict features based on your phone's operating system. This cross-platform compatibility makes Vivoactive a good choice if you might switch phone ecosystems later.

Can I respond to messages on Garmin Vivoactive?

Limited text response capability depends on your phone. With Android phones, you can send pre-written quick replies to text messages. With iPhones, you can only view incoming texts and notifications but can't reply from the watch due to iOS limitations. All models let you reject calls with a text message response on Android. For full two-way messaging from your wrist, you'd need a watch with LTE cellular capability like Apple Watch or Samsung Galaxy Watch. Garmin Vivoactive focuses on fitness tracking with basic smart notifications rather than comprehensive smartwatch communication features.
